File Size Reducer Guide: Convert to a Smaller Format

Reduce file size by choosing better formats for images, documents, audio, and video before uploading, emailing, or sharing files.

Convert by file type

For images, PNG to JPG or JPG to WebP often reduces size. For audio, WAV to MP3 is usually much smaller. For video, MOV to MP4 or older video to MP4 can improve upload compatibility. For documents, DOCX to PDF can make a stable upload copy.

A format change is not the same as full compression, but it often solves the practical upload problem faster than guessing settings.

Do not chase the smallest file blindly

The best smaller file is the smallest one that the destination accepts and that still looks or sounds correct. A tiny file is useless if text becomes unreadable, audio becomes unclear, or the platform rejects the format.

Upload checklist

After conversion, check file size, preview quality, page count, audio duration, video sync, and the accepted file extensions listed by the upload form.
