HEIC is a photo, PDF is a document
iPhones often save photos as HEIC. That is efficient for storage, but many portals expect PDF for documents, receipts, IDs, homework, or application materials.
Convert HEIC to PDF when the destination asks for a document-style upload. Convert HEIC to JPG instead when it asks for an image.
Check the PDF before submitting
Open the converted PDF and review orientation, page boundaries, text readability, and file size. If the HEIC is a photo of a page, crop extra background before conversion when possible.
Keep the HEIC original until the destination accepts the PDF, especially for records, applications, or school submissions.
Best format by destination
Use PDF for document portals, JPG for general image uploads, and PNG when a screenshot or graphic needs sharper edges. If the form says unsupported file type, follow its accepted extensions exactly.
